Aquí Estamos, We the People” Mural Completed in East Austin. A tribute to immigration, ancestry, and the enduring spirit of community

We need more art that reclaims, remembers, and gives voice to those who must be heard. Together we belong—and through art, we amplify that voice.”

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, April 2, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A powerful new mural, “Aquí Estamos, We the People,” now covers the second-story façade of a contemporary home in East Austin. It offers a bold statement on immigration, belonging, and cultural continuity.

The mural honors past generations and those who carry that legacy forward in East Austin, whose rich cultural history lives alongside cycles of change and displacement.

Set against a burnt orange sunset inspired by the view from the home, the scene reflects both beauty and change. The water below alludes to nearby Lady Bird Lake, suggesting movement and shared stories. Lotus flowers rise from the water along the base, symbolizing resilience and renewal.

At the center, a child, mother, and elder look upward with quiet strength. They represent family, memory, and the future, rather than specific individuals. Monarch butterfly wings spread behind the figures, symbolizing migration and endurance. A monarch sanctuary on a neighboring property inspired this background.

The title, “Aquí Estamos, We the People,” appears across the bottom of the mural, affirming the right for all people to have their place in the American story.

Artist Statement:
This mural honors the neighborhood’s history as a once vibrant Latino community, ensuring those roots are never forgotten. “Aquí Estamos / We the People” declares immigrants as a vital part of the American story. This art is not decoration; it is solidarity. Reclaiming space is shaped by those within and beyond the community, but it is critical, here and now, that immigrants have the platform to speak. My art focuses on representing underrepresented communities by placing their stories in the forefront. We need more art that reclaims, remembers, and gives voice to those who must be heard. Together we belong, and through art, we amplify that voice.
